{"id":57559,"date":"2018-11-23T07:18:36","date_gmt":"2018-11-23T07:18:36","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.i-believe.org\/?p=57559"},"modified":"2018-11-23T07:18:36","modified_gmt":"2018-11-23T07:18:36","slug":"this-coal-plant-will-soon-be-transformed-into-a-solar-powered-village","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/i-believe.org\/gbrifoundation\/2018\/11\/23\/this-coal-plant-will-soon-be-transformed-into-a-solar-powered-village\/","title":{"rendered":"This coal plant will soon be transformed into a solar-powered village"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Rugeley coal-fired power plant, England, is all set to be transformed into a village of 2,000 homes &#8211; all of which shall be powered by solar energy.<\/p>\n<p>Featuring rooftop, ground-mounted and even floating solar, battery storage, heat pumps, and other energy efficiency measures, the homes are projected to use about 1\/3 less power than equivalent conventional buildings, and also get half of that power directly from on-site renewables.<\/p>\n<p>What&#8217;s perhaps most interesting is that this project is being developed directly by the power plant owner Engie, which seems to be positioning itself for a future where utilities aren&#8217;t necessarily the centralized energy producers they once were.<\/p>\n<p>Wilfrid Petrie, Engie UK\u2019s chief executive, describes their new strategy as &#8211;\u00a0<span style=\"line-height: 1.5\">\u201cWe are positioning ourselves as going beyond energy into place-making.
