An elderly woman from Durham, England, suffering from dementia and depression had a daily routine of sitting by the window in her home and waving at passersby. This week, she was overwhelmed with happiness on receiving a greeting card from a mystery neighbor identified only by her first name. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cTo the lady who waves and smiles, with Christmas wishes,\u201d read the card. \u201cIt\u2019s nice to see you smile and wave when I walk past your house. Please accept my small token gift to give you another reason to smile.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The note, which contained a gift card for UK grocery store chain Sainsbury\u2019s, was signed only by a woman named Leigh.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Melly, the woman’s granddaughter later recounted the heartwarming incident on social media so she could wish the mystery woman a Merry Christmas and thank her for the note. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cMy Nan is disabled and has dementia,\u201d explained Melly in a tweet. \u201cShe sits in her chair by the window all day, every day\u2014just looking outside and normally feeling lonely as we all work during the day.
