Las Vegas launches an initiative that allows drivers to pay off parking tickets by donating school supplies
On June 19th, the city council of Las Vegas
launched a brilliant initiative under which drivers are allowed to pay off their parking tickets and driving
infractions by donating school stationery items and other educational materials.
Since it is a month-long program, it is expected to run until July 19th.
Under the program, as
long as a driver has not been fined for a public safety-related incident, they
are free to eliminate their debt by donating supplies such as pencils, pens,
erasers, dry erase markers, paper towels, copy paper, rulers, scissors, and
pencil sharpeners.
All donations must be made within 30 days of the infractions and all of the supplies must be “new, unwrapped school supplies of equal or greater value to their fine to the Parking Services Offices.”
All of the supplies will be donated to the Teachers Exchange, a nonprofit that is associated with the Public Education Foundation.
