Meet the 70-year-old who spent the whole of 2018 cleaning trash off 52 English beaches in her spare time
70-year-old Englishwoman Pat Smith is someone each of us can take inspiration from. The elderly lady spent the entire last year picking up plastic trash from Devon and Cornwall’s beautiful beaches in her spare time. In fact, doing that was her 2018 New Year’s resolution!
Every week, armed with bin bags, rubber gloves and a litter picker, she traveled to different beaches in England and even spent her Christmas day picking up plastic bottles and fishing gear on Trevone Beach. And the married mother-of-two has no intention of stopping her campaign just because the year is over.
“Doing 52 beach cleans in 2018 was my New Year’s Resolution and it’s finally done,” said Smith. “I won’t stop, as our beaches need me. I’m driven to try and protect our living planet for my children and grandchildren and I will continue to do everything in my power to achieve that.”
