Pink donates $500,000 to Australian fire services
American singer and songwriter Pink recently pledged to donate $500,000 to the Australian fire services currently fighting to protect communities and wildlife from the bushfire crisis. The Australian bushfires are a countrywide catastrophe that have unleashed massive devastation killing millions of animals and displacing thousands of people.
“I am totally devastated watching what is happening in Australia right now with the horrific bushfires,” the singer wrote in a Tweet. “I am pledging a donation of $500,000 directly to the local fire services that are battling so hard on the frontlines. My heart goes out to our friends and family in Oz.”
Australia’s two most populous states, New South Wales and Victoria, have had their east coasts devastated by massive out-of-control fires that have destroyed more than 1,500 homes, The Guardian reported.
The NSW Rural Fire Service commissioner, Shane Fitzsimmons, said on Saturday that 148 fires were burning across the state, 12 of which were at emergency warning alert level.
