Contact Information : Jeslin Varghese, Kayla Gerstenberg
Number of Students : 20-25 per year
Proposed Annual Budget : $ 10,000
Funds Secured : $2000
UN SDG : Quality Education, No Poverty, Gender Equality, Reduced Inequalities
Year Started : 12/1/2016
Problem
Higher education can make a huge impact in one’s life; no matter what profession they plan to pursue – both socially and economically. Unfortunately, many students do not have sufficient financial backing to pursue their higher education dream. As teenagers, they either join the work force to earn a living or end up getting married due to family pressure.
Solution
Our solution is to identify underrepresented students and support them with scholarships to pursue their higher education dream. This would include giving career guidance, paying for coaching classes to prepare them for science, technology, engineering, medical, teaching, management and accounting exams. Through this program, we will transform lives, better families, and strengthen our communities for a sustainable future.
Current Status
At present, we are supporting the entrance examination fees of 2 students preparing for medical college entrance examination. We are also working with other organizations such as CAMBA in New York to see how we can get involved in assisting local kids in NY. Some of the pictures you see here are from an event CAMBA organized in Brooklyn where Jeslin Varghese volunteered representing Rotary International.
At the moment, we are seeking additional funds to expand this program to benefit more children. In addition, we are also seeking volunteers who can speak, motivate young minds by recording a video for us, or in-person as your schedule allows.
We want to support more public schools, provide more scholarships, empower more children, give more families security during the difficult times and change their lives in a sustainable way. We believe success should be measured by the lives we change. But we can’t do it without you, so we’re asking you to get involved.
