Year Started : 6/1/2012
Problem
Basura Bash is a one day, all volunteer event to clean the San Antonio Watershed. For the past 22 years (as of 2017) volunteers has helped clean area waterways. This event is organized by the San Antonio River Foundation. Local businesses and volunteers actively participate in this event every year to clean the San Antonio River.
Solution
. In 2017, about 3,000 volunteers pitched in to clean 21 tributaries across San Antonio and collected 32.8 tons of trash, 1.14 tons of metal (recycled), 84 tires (recycled)and 2,504 lbs of electronics (recycled).I-believe partnered with GBRI employees in the past (2011 and 2012) to join this clean-up effort. We couldn’t participate in 2017 but look forward to do so in 2018.
Current Status
GBRI and I-Believe hopes to organize a bigger group for future Basura Bash events.
We want to support more public schools, provide more scholarships, empower more children, give more families security during the difficult times and change their lives in a sustainable way. We believe success should be measured by the lives we impact. But we can’t do it without you, so we’re asking you to get involved.
