This pizza shop puts up pics of adoptable shelter animals on their delivery boxes
A pizza shop in New York is making sure you don’t just toss out your pizza box once you’re done! It has come up with the unique idea of putting up pictures of adoptable shelter animals on its pizza boxes to encourage people to give these adorable pups a loving home.
The idea came after the Just Pizza & Wings Co. franchise owner Mary Alloy began volunteering with the Niagara Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA). An SPCA event coordinator, Kimberly LaRussa, texted Alloy one night with the suggestion to put the dogs’ pictures on the pizza boxes.
“Kimberley texted me one night and was like, ‘Hey, what would you think about putting pictures of the dogs on pizza boxes?’ and I just couldn’t wait,” Alloy said. “We are all animal lovers here, so I got permission from the franchise to do it and immediately got to work.”
On Friday, customers began receiving their pizza pies with photos of adoptable pups attached to boxes—and the story also went viral.
“We’ve had a tremendous amount of interest and support from the community and beyond since the story went viral on Friday,” LaRussa told CNN. “Many people want to order a pizza just to get the shelter dog photo, other pizzerias have offered to put flyers on their pizza boxes, and so many people are tagging their friends and family.”
